In light of the documentary starring produced by Jada
Pinkett Smith coming out April 5th, this week it’s all about Ms.
Angela Davis! Born January 26, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama, Davis is a
political activist, author and scholar. She came onto the scene as a major
radical figure in as a leader of the Communist Party in the USA in the 1960’s. In
1970 she was incarcerated on charges for her involvement with three prison
inmates. Though she never became an official member of the party, Davis was
also in close relation with The Black Panther Party along with her involvement in the
Civil Rights Movement. Prisoner and feminist rights along with the rights of
black Americans have been her areas of focus in political advocacy as well as
her lectures in academia. Angela Davis is currently a professor at University of
California-Santa Cruz.
