Night at the Apollo

The Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) held an event during sibs weekend called “Night at the Apollo” on Friday, February 7th in Baker Ballroom at 8:00 pm.

Just in case you are not familiar with what the traditional “Showtime at the Apollo” is, it is based on an actual theatre in Harlem, New York. It is a place where amateur singers, dancers, and other performers can showcase their talents and be given feedback by the audience.

Walking into the ballroom, all seats were filled with students and faculty, as well as siblings who came down to visit for the weekend. Everyone was waiting to see what students were brave enough to showcase their talent in front of the entire crowd. There were eight performances throughout the night as well as a Photo Booth and videos being shown. BSCPB displayed three videos of upcoming events as well as introducing themselves as an organization. The hosts also held a freestyle contest with members in the audience including visiting high school students.

After the judges voted, it came down to four performers. The performers were The Marvelous Dancers, Michael Mathews and Tanner Cameron, Stephanie, and Denisha Franklin. It was the crowd’s turn to choose the winner. The winner was Michael Mathews and Tanner Cameron with their duet.

Night at the Apollo was a great event for family and friends to see what kind of talent Ohio University has to offer.
