President and First Lady of Ohio University

Roderick J. McDavis and Deborah McDavis are the 20th first couple of Ohio University. Both were born in Dayton, Ohio and they have known each other for most of their lives. They were high school sweethearts and continue to thrive as a couple after so many years.

President McDavis graduated from Ohio University in 1970 and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. While his wife Deborah graduated from the University of Dayton. President McDavis started his term on July 1, 2004 and he is the first African American to serve as president of Ohio University.

During their time at Ohio University, the president and his wife have started two scholarships programs – The Urban and Appalachian scholarships – with the goal of creating more diversity on campus. President McDavis has also started the Interlink Alliance, an educational partnership with nine historically black colleges and universities, and it is another effort to enhance the diverse nature of OU. As a couple, they continue to bring positive change to Ohio University.
